It’s a crazy month trying to organise all the end of year celebrations and find the perfect gifts let alone organise the elaborate spread of food. Setting up the dinner table is probably the last thing on your mind. With a couple of weeks to go why not get creative and decide upon a theme for this Christmas to really impress all your family and friends.

Check out these stunning Christmas table ideas and get creative with some fun DIY projects.

Traditional Dinner Table

Nothing says Christmas more than Red and Green. Holly branches, pine cones and red blossoms as a centrepiece are always a festive decoration that scream Christmas. Set the table with white plates and layer the table with matching napkins and place-cards for an authentic Christmas celebration.

Colourful Fun

Who says Christmas has to be red and green? Why not celebrate the season with lots of colour, don’t be afraid to mix and match. One of the easiest ways to bring to life your dinner table is through a table cloth or table runner.  Use the fabric as inspiration for the rest of your table as you add layers of crockery and decoration. Flowers are always a good idea, if you don’t have a tablecloth, colourful flowers are essential. Choose brightly coloured flowers in contrasting colours and shapes to really make your table pop. Tie the table together through Coloured napkins and let the fun begin!

Monochromatic Mood

A colourful pallete may not be your thing, perhaps you prefer the sophistication of black and white. A monochromatic scheme needs to be well balanced through the different elements with areas of relief from the intensity of the black. Contrasting black and white on a table is done through layers. Alternating black and white creates a lovely simple yet dramatic look to your table that is sure to impress. You can't go wrong with black and white!

Rustic Elegance

Rustic elegance can be done in an eclectic way or in a sophisticated maner. Anything with timber features or Australian native flora can be classed as rustic due to its textural and natural qualities. Timber tables are perfect as they add warmth and personaility to your setting. The unique grain and workmanship of the timber should be celebrated through exposing it's qualities. Timber chairs and decor accesories can also be a great way to bring timber into your table setting. Hessian or linen table cloths can help you achieve an organic approach if you dont have a timber table. Line your table with greenery, crockery and glasses, for an outdoor experience within the comfort of your home.

Eclectic Boho

A huge trend this year has been pallet tables. Easy to assemble and create, this craze is perfect for a boho relaxed vibe. There is no right and wrong in how you style your table. Eclectic decor mixes and matches different styles, colours and textures. Chairs are a great way to create an eclectic feel to your table. Use an array of chairs to acheive a fun and quirky personaility. Alternatively lay a rug and cushions on the ground, kick off your shoes and celebrate with a cheese platter and a glass of wine.

Simply Perfect

A dinner table doesn't have to be extragant to impress. Sometimes the most simple arrangments can look the best, after all the food should really take centre stage. The simple detail of a fern illustrates a Christmas tree and it works so perfecty as a plate decoration. A table setting can be cost effective you just need to decide on a style and stick with it. White is a great option as it can then be used for multiple events throuhout the year. (The truth is white will never date) White is a classic colour and an excellent starting point for any table setting. Use a white cloth and plates then add your own personal touches through placemats, flowers, candles and festive decor. - Keep it simple
